God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Christopher Hitchens

Merits: Christopher Hitchens graduated in the 70’s from Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He was a prolific author of subjects ranging from religion to culture and politics. His wit was formidable on and off the page as was his penchant for a good argument.

Material: This book is a lacerating criticism of religion and the role it has and continues to play in the world. Christopher targets dogma and belief with a blend of entertaining combative sarcasm. Not to be taken lightly by the presence of humor, the author demonstrates his own erudition regarding the subject matter, arguing intelligently albeit indignantly.

Grade: Antichrist. As is evidenced by this book’s title, this read is subjectively anti-religion. Hitchens is a literary pugilist that, in this book, goes after faith. He was renowned for his wazor wit, which is on full display in this book, so be ready for some clever barbs.
